At least 14 Hajj pilgrims die in intense heat Jordan's foreign ministry said its nationals had died "after suffering sun stroke due to the extreme heat wave". The annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca is considered one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, with millions of Muslims traveling to Saudi Arabia to participate. Unfortunately, this year's pilgrimage has been marred by tragedy as at least 14 pilgrims from Jordan have died due to the intense heat. According to the Jordanian foreign ministry, the pilgrims succumbed to sunstroke as a result of the extreme heatwave that has been sweeping across the region. The scorching temperatures and high humidity levels have posed a significant risk to the health and safety of the pilgrims, many of whom are elderly and may already have pre-existing medical conditions. The Saudi Arabian authorities have been working diligently to mitigate the effects of the heatwave and ensure the well-being of all pilgrims. They have set up medical tents and provided access to cold water and cooling facilities to help alleviate the discomfort caused by the extreme temperatures. Additionally, they have urged pilgrims to stay hydrated, rest frequently, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Despite these efforts, the heatwave has proven to be relentless, and the risk of heat-related illnesses remains high.
