Dodgers News: Pepiot Set to Pitch Sunday Against San Diego, Price Heads to the IL

Due to recent injuries in Tony Gonsolin and Walker Buehler, the Dodgers have been on the hunt for their sixth man in the pitching rotation. LA Prospect, Ryan Pepiot made his major league debut this past May and has gotten 7 starts this season including three in August but doesn’t look likely to fill that spot permanently.

However, Pepiot is still riding high off a quality start in which he held the Miami Marlins to just two runs over six innings while collecting a career-high seven strikeouts. Overall, the 25-year-old is 2-0 with a 4.02 ERA and a WHIP of 1.40 across 25 innings.

The Butler alum is still young and has lots of opportunities to gain more experience and maybe now is a better time than ever. With a 91-41 overall record thanks to a hefty 12-1 win on Saturday, the Dodgers have some playing room to get things figured out and secured before the postseason.

On Sunday, Pepiot is set to return to the active roster and make the first relief appearance of his career. After Saturday night’s win, Dave Roberts revealed that left-hander Caleb Ferguson will start Sunday’s finale against the Padres and Pepiot would follow in a bulk role.

Ferguson is –0 this season with an 1.85 ERA and 23 SO. He will match up against San Diego hurler Mike Clevinger who is –5 with a 3.59 ERA and 73 SO this season.

The game will be exclusively on ESPN with first pitch coming at 4:08 PM PT

Now, since Pepiot was optioned to Oklahoma City on August 22nd, he is ineligible to get recalled since 15 days have not passed. However, he will be replacing David Price who will be headed to the IL on Sunday.

Dave Roberts said David Price is going on the IL. He’ll be the move for Ryan Pepiot tomorrow Price was the third player who had an MRI yesterday. There was inflammation in his wrist. Roberts said Price has been dealing with nagging injuries to his elbow and wrist for most of the season but he’s been “grinding it out” for the team. The veteran has put together a solid 2.58 ERA over 38 innings of work, collecting 2 wins to no losses, a save, 37 strikeouts, and a 1.17 WHIP before the injury.

Andrew Heaney, Sunday’s originally scheduled starter, gets an extra day and will take the mound on Monday in the series opener against the Giants.
