This natural phenomenon is both awe-inspiring and dangerous, highlighting the destructive power of wildfires. The fire tornado, also known as a fire whirl or firenado, is a tornado-like vortex that forms within a fire. It consists of a core of ash and flames surrounded by a whirling column of smoke and debris. Fire tornadoes are extremely rare and occur when specific weather conditions align with intense heat and fire behavior. The Park fire, located near the town of Gorman in California's Los Angeles County, started on Sunday afternoon. It quickly spread, aided by strong winds and dry vegetation. As firefighters battled to contain the blaze, a fire tornado emerged, adding to the already challenging conditions. Fire tornadoes can reach astounding heights, with some towering over 30,000 feet (9,100 meters). They generate intense heat and can cause erratic fire behavior, making it even more dangerous for firefighters and residents in the area. This phenomenon can also propel burning debris, potentially starting new fires in other locations.
