Iran nuclear programme: UN agency urges Tehran to cooperate

Iran nuclear programme: UN agency urges Tehran to cooperate The United Nations' nuclear watchdog has urged Iran to fully cooperate with the agency regarding its nuclear programme. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) voted to censure Iran for its failure to comply with the organization's requests for information and access to nuclear sites. The IAEA's resolution, which was passed with the support of 31 member states, called on Iran to "provide the IAEA with such access without further delay" and to "clarify and resolve the IAEA's questions regarding the correctness and completeness of Iran's safeguards declarations." The agency's concerns arise from Iran's lack of transparency and its refusal to allow IAEA inspectors access to certain nuclear facilities. This has raised suspicions about the nature and extent of Iran's nuclear activities. The IAEA has been monitoring Iran's nuclear programme since the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015. Under the JCPOA, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. However, the IAEA has expressed concerns about Iran's compliance with the agreement since the United States withdrew from the deal in 2018. Iran has gradually scaled back its commitments under the JCPOA, citing the failure of other signatories to fulfill their obligations. The country has increased its uranium enrichment levels beyond the limits set by the agreement and has resumed activities at the Fordow and Natanz nuclear facilities. The IAEA's latest resolution
