‘My cancer is confirmed stage 4’: Media personality Jeremy Mansfield

Radio personality Jeremy Mansfield revealed on his Facebook page on Friday, 5 August that his cancer’s advanced to stage 4. The star was first diagnosed with liver cancer in January this year after beating leukemia 13 years ago.

JEREMY MANSFIELD ONGOING HEALTH WOES

In a Facebook post over the weekend, the radio and TV personality Jeremy Mansfield made the devastating announcement from Hospice Wits that doctors informed him that his liver cancer has advanced to stage 4.

He wrote: “Have had it confirmed by the specialist surgeon that is leading everyone in the team looking after me that my cancer is confirmed stage 4, terminal and is now only subject to palliative care. This dream team (as I now refer to them) will now guide me through how to have as much fun in the time I have left and fulfill as many dreams, big and small, I have on my bucket list. A new journey for Kari and the rest of our families start today.”

This is after he revealed earlier this year that he was hospitalised for two months as he was not feeling 100%, was told he’s got some form of liver cancer and doctors discovered a growth on his spine which had to be removed in two painful spinal operations.

“Docs not sure which type so I’m back next week for more biopsies to find the right cell. That way the oncologists can design the right treatment.”

The Hot 91.9 FM host also vowed to kick cancer’s butt and said he kicked leukemia a** 13 years ago after nine months of treatment.

‘CONFIRMED STAGE 4 CANCER’

Mansfield was also diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2009, which is a type of blood cancer that attacks the lymph nodes.

According to cancercenter.com, liver cancer is complicated by the fact that most patients have damage that limits the organ’s function. The liver provides a crucial service to the body, aiding in digestion and detoxification. Reduced liver function may result in severe, even life-threatening, conditions. Reduced liver function may also have implications when choosing treatment options.

According to the site, advanced stage 4 cancer has two subcategories:

  1. Stage 4A: One or several tumors of any size have been found and cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, but it has not reached distant sites.

  2. Stage 4B: One or several tumors of any size have been found. The cancer may or may not have reached nearby lymph nodes, but it has spread to faraway organs such as the lungs or bones.
