Should You Buy a Luxury Vehicle?

If you’re in a position to buy the car of your dreams, it can still be a complex decision to decide if you want to make the investment to buy a luxury vehicle. Whether you are considering buying used or new, there are a series of things you need to ask yourself. What kind of questions do you need to ask yourself? Informing yourself as a potential buyer will help you feel comfortable with your decision, whatever decision you make.

Upfront Costs

Your first consideration is, of course, making sure you can cover upfront costs of the vehicles in question. If you’re thinking about a purchase, you should first determine how much your chosen car purchase will be, and what percentage of that it is of the income you have free. If you make over seventy thousand dollars a year, it should be possible to purchase or finance a luxury car of $35,000 or more. However, this does not take into account your household debt, mortgage, health and medical expenses, and other concerns. Put your budget together and make sure it’s prepared in advance, for your peace of mind.

Long-Term and Marginal Costs

There are other, long term costs which can be involved in purchasing a luxury vehicle, however. Cars burn through tires normally, but this is increased by the temptation to drive your luxury car fast and hard. Replacement parts for specialty vehicles can be exorbitant, and besides mechanical parts, cosmetic parts can be more expensive as well. Make sure you know the long term parts cost before making a final decision on which car is best for you.

The Extra Comfort

Luxury cars are engineered for comfort as well as speed. The whole experience is geared towards making sure that your body fits perfectly behind the steering wheel, and that it genuinely is an exhilarating and comfortable experience. It must be comfortable for passengers as well, because you will want to be able to take friends and family on long drives and fun adventures. But the greatest comfort should be where the tire touches the road, but the bumps never reach your spine! Luxury cars are made specifically to be a smooth drive, comparable to top shelf bourbon versus cheap vodka.

Cosmetic Maintenance

As with all cars, you want to be able to protect your financial investment. Making sure you keep up on maintenance in general, and specifically exterior paint maintenance. You don’t want any dings in luxury, nor for your exterior to look shabby. Regardless of how great your comfort is within the car, you also want it to look beautiful on the outside. Make sure to wash twice a month to keep general dirt flecks and debris from harming your car. You can prevent needing to wax your car by applying ceramic coating.

Safety

You’ve already heard that luxury vehicles are the safest of the cars available. This is generally accurate information! They are engineered exceptionally carefully to be capable of withstanding a crash. The current listings of safest vehicles on the road do include both luxury and midsize vehicles. But, along with the exceptional abilities to pass road safety tests, and testing of all safety equipment to prevent deaths in those accidents that do occur, luxury vehicles are well suited for both individual and family safety needs.

Resale

One of the major downsides of owning a luxury vehicle, however, is the resale value. After just three years on the road, the resale value of most luxury vehicles is at or below 58% of new cost. There have been some, like Porsche and Lexus, which do retain more of their value on the resale market. It’s important to look into possible resale values for your future, in case you want to change cars down the line.

Ease of Maintenance

Hidden maintenance costs are one of the trickier aspects of considering purchase of a luxury vehicle. For example, your car needs the best fuel in order to be the best on the road. Some cars offer care programs as a portion of price, because maintaining the engine and other parts can be more expensive when working with luxury. The assumption can be that if you can afford, and choose to own a luxury vehicle, then you can also afford to be able to care for it on a long term basis. So it’s important to think about and budget for that long term maintenance in order to protect your investment.

Individual Style

Individual style is a big portion of why you’ve wanted a luxury car, though, in the first place. Besides the beauty of the engineering, each sleek and supple angle of the cars are astoundingly beautifully done. Whether you’re looking at something as sleek as a panther, or which looks like it’s about to take flight, your personal style needs to match every inch of your new car. The astounding ways your new car will move are not as visible to others as the shining exterior. Both are important for your goals in owning, so make sure you match in all the things you need.

Only having a beautiful exterior isn’t what has caused you to love the idea of having a luxury vehicle. There are a lot of considerations before purchasing any vehicle, and your upfront costs are only one portion of that important decision! Your individual style is a huge portion of your desire to purchase, of course! Resale value needs to be researched so you can protect your fiscal investment. You need to know the safety of the chosen vehicle is comparable to other choices you could make, of course. And you need to look into long term costs, whether this means standard maintenance, replacing tires, cosmetic maintenance, and whatever other marginal and long-term costs apply to the vehicle you’ve fallen in love with! Make sure you also check all of these factors. Your comfort will be wonderful when driving a smooth, luxurious vehicle, but when you are done driving, you also need to know all of these other aspects.
