Spring Cleaning Items You May Be Forgetting

Spring is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts, and what better way to start than with a thorough spring cleaning of your home. While you may remember to dust, vacuum, and declutter, some often-overlooked areas need attention too.

Washing the Baseboards

When cleaning your floors, it's easy to overlook the baseboards. However, baseboards can accumulate dirt, dust, and even pet hair over time, making them look dingy and dull. To wash your baseboards, you'll need a bucket of warm water and a mild cleaner. Start by wiping down the baseboards with a damp cloth to remove any loose debris. To begin, dip a fresh cloth into the cleaning solution and wring it out. Then use it to wipe down your baseboards in sections. Once you have finished with one area, move onto the next until each surface has been cleaned thoroughly. Lastly, go over everything once more using a damp cloth to clear away any leftover soap residue from before.

Clean Your Blinds

Blinds are notorious for collecting dust, and if left uncleaned, can aggravate allergies and make your home feel dirty. To clean your blinds, start by dusting them with a microfiber cloth or a feather duster. Then, fill a bowl with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and wring it out, then wipe down each slat of the blinds. For vinyl blinds, you can also use a dryer sheet to help repel dust.

Clean Behind Appliances

Cleaning behind appliances is one of the most overlooked spring cleaning tasks, but it's essential for keeping your home clean and preventing potential hazards. Over time, dust, dirt, and even food debris can accumulate behind your appliances, which can cause a musty odor and attract pests. To clean behind your appliances, first, unplug them and move them away from the wall. Then, use a vacuum cleaner or a duster to remove any loose debris. Next, use warm soapy water and a clean cloth to wipe down the walls and floors behind the appliances. Finally, let the area dry completely before moving the appliances back into place.

Although tackling spring cleaning may appear overwhelming, it is essential to remember the areas that are frequently neglected and require attention as well. Washing the baseboards, cleaning your blinds, and cleaning behind your appliances are just a few tasks that can make a big difference in the overall cleanliness of your home. By taking the time to tackle these tasks, you'll be able to start the season off fresh and enjoy a clean and healthy home.
