Steve Bannon: Ex-Trump Aide Ordered to Prison A US court has issued an order for former Trump campaign strategist, Steve Bannon, to surrender himself by 1 July. This ruling comes after Bannon was charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the January 6th committee's investigation into the Capitol attack. The decision was made by the United States District Judge, Carl Nichols, who stated that Bannon's refusal to comply with the committee's subpoenas "were not justified." The judge also rejected Bannon's arguments that executive privilege protected his refusal to provide documents and testimony. Bannon's refusal to cooperate with the committee's investigation stemmed from his belief that former President Donald Trump's executive privilege shielded him from having to provide the requested documents and testimony. However, the judge dismissed these claims, stating that executive privilege does not apply to conversations or actions after a president leaves office. The contempt of Congress charge against Bannon carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. If convicted, Bannon will become the first person from Trump's inner circle to be held criminally accountable for his involvement in the events leading up to the Capitol attack.
