The Amazonian town putting world cities to shame

The Amazonian town putting world cities to shame Puerto Nariño is a tranquil experiment in sustainable living where motor vehicles are banned and the streets are as clean as Copenhagen's. Located deep within the Amazon rainforest, Puerto Nariño is a small town in Colombia that is challenging the notion of what a sustainable and livable city can be. With a population of around 6,000 people, this unique town has implemented a series of innovative policies and practices to create a clean and environmentally friendly environment for its residents. One of the most striking features of Puerto Nariño is the absence of motor vehicles. In an effort to reduce pollution and noise, the town has completely banned cars and motorcycles. Instead, residents and visitors navigate the streets by foot, bicycle, or boat. This not only contributes to the town's peaceful atmosphere but also ensures cleaner air and a safer environment for pedestrians. To further promote sustainable transportation, Puerto Nariño has also implemented a fleet of solar-powered tuk-tuks. These three-wheeled electric vehicles provide convenient transportation around the town while minimizing the use of fossil fuels. Additionally, the town has a network of well-maintained bike paths, encouraging residents to use bicycles as their primary mode of transportation. In terms of waste management, Puerto Nariño has implemented a comprehensive recycling program. Residents are encouraged to separate their waste into recyclables and non-recyclables, with regular collection services ensuring that the materials are properly disposed of or reused.
