Ukraine summit: A path to peace? The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been a source of tension and instability in the region for several years. However, there is new hope for a resolution as Ukraine aimed to seize the initiative through diplomacy at the recent summit held in Paris. The summit, which was attended by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Germany, and France, aimed to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The negotiations centered around implementing the Minsk agreements, a set of peace accords signed in 2014 and 2015 but never fully implemented. One of the key outcomes of the summit was the agreement to implement a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine by the end of the year. This ceasefire, if successful, could provide a much-needed respite for the civilians living in the conflict zone who have been caught in the crossfire for far too long. Another significant development was the agreement to exchange all prisoners by the end of December. This is a positive step towards building trust between the two sides and a necessary precondition for any further progress in the peace process.
