WWHL: Kylie Minogue says legal fight with Kylie Jenner over ‘Kylie’ trademark was &#8216

Kylie Minogue has said her legal fight with Kylie Jenner over trademark ownership of the name ‘Kylie’ was ‘just business’ on Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live.

The 54-year-old singer, wearing a black strapless dress adorned with black feathers and black boots, said she had to take a stand after viewers from Dallas remotely asked about the 2015 trademark battle with the 24-year-old reality star.

‘When I was named Kylie, I think I met one person older than me called Kylie. So it’s kind of unusual,’ Kylie said.

‘I’ve spent a lifetime protecting my brand and building my brand so it was just something that had to be done.’

Show host Andy Cohen, 54, then high-fived Kylie.

‘Yes, it did,’ Andy said.

‘But let me also say we came to an agreement,’ Kylie said smiling of the dispute that was resolved in her favour in 2017.

‘Yes, you did,’ Andy said, smiling back at her. ‘Oh my God. Did you have to call Kris Jenner and be like “let me tell you something”.’

Good question: Andy welcomed a couple from Dallas who asked the singer about her reaction to Kylie Jenner attempting to trademark ‘Kylie’ and if she was happy about winning in court

‘No, but I’d love to meet them,’ Kylie said.

Kylie had applied to trademark the name Kylie, for her clothing and cosmetic businesses, in the US in April 2014.

But after intervention by the Australian singer’s legal representatives, the application was rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

However, the Spinning Around chanteuse admitted in a different interview on Sunday that she was disappointed to hear that her lawyers referred to Jenner as a ‘secondary reality TV personality’.

Meanwhile, during the show, Andy played a clip of Kylie’s as a young girl for her first ever screen credit from a 1980’s episode of a television show called Skyways and a clip from her soap opera  Neighbours in 1986.

He also showed her a picture of her at Christmas Dinner in 2014 with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Sutton Stracke. Andy asked her if she knew why she was there with Sutton.

‘No idea whatsoever,’ Kylie said.

Kylie said she was going back to ‘Neighbours’ for its final episode. Andy then asked her about her first hit ‘Locomotion’ and whether she still liked performing it.

‘I think it was a little awkward to do it for a number of years, though we did lots of different versions of it,’ Kylie said.

‘Then we did a disco version on the Golden Tour in 2018 which was super fun and now when I do it in certain gigs, it just —it’s such a smash.’

‘People love it,’ Andy said.

‘As a gay icon yourself what do you think is the ultimate gay anthem,’ Andy asked.

‘There’s plenty but ‘I Will Survive’ Gloria Gaynor ’ Kylie said.

When asked if she had a favorite musical or show tune, Kylie said Moulin Rouge.

‘Because I was in it and also it was very good,’ Kylie said.

Andy wanted to know if she had a favorite cover of one of her songs.

Kylie also shared that her favorite current song of hers was ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head.’

‘It’s having a bit of a revival at the moment and I got to sing it with Coldplay a few nights ago,’ Kylie said.

Kylie then shared that she was a fan of the jazz singer Blossom Dearie who she even got to meet before she died.

‘I was trying to find an entrance into jazz and she’s got a high-pitched voice so that was my, she was my conduit,’ Kylie said.

As for when she would be releasing new music, Kylie did confirm she was back in the studio.

‘I’ve had a few days back in the studio,’ Kylie said. ‘Going back definitely through July. I don’t know, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen. I’m open to being open. We will see what happens.’

Wild segue: ‘No,’ Kylie said as she laughed nervously. ‘That’s a really big, wild segue’

‘Speaking about being open to being open, you have been with your guy for four years, are we going to be reading about a wedding anytime soon?’ Andy asked.

‘No,’ Kylie said as she laughed nervously. ‘That’s a really big, wild segue.’

‘Possibilities are wonderful,’ Kylie said smiling. ’ I don’t know, I just got all shy then.’

One viewer asked Kylie about working with Robbie Williams and if the song they were working on was still in the works.

‘I think that’s been put to the side, actually, but it was fun,’ Kylie said. ‘I’m sure Robbie and I will collide again at some point. I love him as an artist.’

‘I’d love to see you and Gaga together,’ Andy said.

‘I just saw her jazz show in Vegas and it was amazing,’ Kylie said.

Andy told Kylie that seeing her sing at Cafe Carlyle made him think about her performing with Lady Gaga. Andy said the big question for so many years was always whether Kylie would perform with Madonna.

‘Did you ever get close?,’ Andy asked.

‘Yes,’ Kylie said. ‘There have been a couple of occasions, I’m just remembering. There have been a couple of occasions but it hasn’t quite happened yet. I would be up for that. The level is high here. Gaga, Madonna.’

‘You make it happen,’ Kylie said, pointing at Andy.

‘You’re Kylie you can make anything happen,’ Andy said.

Andy asked Kylie if it was true she was going to do a Las Vegas residency.

‘You are coming with all the hard hitting questions,’ Kylie said. ‘Is it true? Maybe.’

Kylie said that opening night of Abba’s Voyage was ‘absolutely brilliant’.

Kylie also said she never hooked up with one of her backup dancers during her career.

‘What about a bodyguard?’ Andy asked.

‘You are obsessed with my security guy,’ Kylie said.

Andy asked Kylie to take a look at some other past fashion choices and label them Disco or Discard. She labeled all her looks disco. One viewer asked Kylie how good a kisser Ginger Spice was.

‘We didn’t make out that heavily,’ Kylie said.
