Doctor Strange 2 Streaming Release On Disney+ Confirmed By Marvel

Warning: Some SPOILERS lie ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will officially begin streaming on Disney+ later this month. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel follows Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular sorcerer as he tries to protect America Chavez from a corrupted Wanda Maximoff trying to break into the multiverse to reconnect with her children. Sam Raimi is at the helm of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with a script from Loki creator Michael Waldron.

Alongside Cumberbatch, the cast for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness includes the MCU returns of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West. The film also marks the MCU debut of Xochitl Gomez as the young America Chavez. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scored big at the box office and fared generally well with critics and audiences alike in theaters and now is gearing up to make its way home.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Nearly a month after the film finally hit theaters, Marvel has confirmed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ streaming release date. The MCU sequel will officially hit Disney+ on June 22, falling in line with the 45-day window of previous Disney releases. Check out Marvel’s announcement below:

Marvel’s confirmation of ’ streaming release date comes a couple of weeks after Disney+ German social media seemingly confirmed its June 22 premiere. As previously mentioned, Disney has kept with the 45-day theatrical exclusive window that stemmed from the pandemic keeping a lot audiences at home and hungry for new releases on their streaming platforms. The original reported leak of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was pulled down by the Disney+ German account shortly after it was initially posted, leading many to believe the streaming release date to be genuine.

Though surpassing The Batman in ticket pre-sales and receiving generally positive reviews, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness interestingly proved to be a step down from the box office success of prior MCU title Spider-Man: No Way Home, only hauling in over $879 million against its reported $200 million budget. While the likes of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier and Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter returning and John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic would have seemingly brought audiences out in droves akin to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s multiversal returns, the more mixed reception from critics and word of mouth regarding the film’s pacing seems to have affected its overall box office returns. Only time will tell if Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness performs better on Disney+ than its fellow MCU chapters when it premieres on June 22.
