The DeSantis Effect strikes again, as the Tampa Bay Rays are set to lose a $35M project after deciding to pander to woke politics. A report from Outkick points to that as a reason why America’s Governor Ron DeSantis will be vetoing the legislation that would give the baseball franchise a new sports complex
At issue is the team’s decision, or whoever runs their Twitter account’s decision, to team with the New York Yankees and go all-in on the ultra-radical left’s gun control agenda. It was a national trend over the Yankees using the word “latinx.” “Latinx” is what white progressives call “Latinos” and/or “Latinas,” even though the Hispanic community doesn’t like it.

The company’s decision to take a partisan political stance will cost them public money. According to Outkick, “Ron DeSantis plans to veto a $35 million legislation for a Pasco County facility that’s earmarked for the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training, in response to the Rays politicizing recent shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde.”
It should be noted that voters were already against the deal. They were calling on DeSantis to veto the legislation. Voters tend not to like it when multi-billion dollar sports franchises get taxpayer money to build fancy stadiums. DeSantis could have been planning to veto the bill anyway. The Rays’ decision to go woke gives him an extra reason.
It’s not unlike when Disney let themselves be bullied by activists into attacking the legislature over Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill. Doing so cost the company a special tax deal.
Americans are tired of companies taking political sides in cultural wars. In the wake of ultra-radical progressives launching disinformation campaigns against voter integrity bills in Texas and Georgia, where companies were forced to issue statements on legislation they knew nothing about, DeSantis is giving a voice to Americans who are tired of it. The “DeSantis Effect” makes it clear to companies these decisions are no longer consequence-free.
